Canon T7 Review

The Canon EOS Rebel T7 is an entry-level camera that benefits from strong image quality and great battery life. Although it is built for beginners, the tech behind the Canon EOS Rebel T7 is far from simple. However, its 9 point autofocus is a bit out of date and the market has moved on.

Image Capture

The Canon EOS Rebel T7 has a 24.1 MP chip which is a big upgrade from the previous version of the camera. This, alongside the DIGIC 4+ image processor, means that the camera is responsive and gives decent image quality, but still not the kind of images you would expect higher up in the market.

Sensitivity on the Canon EOS Rebel T7 works from ISO 100 to ISO 6,400 on the camera, and this can be expanded to ISO 12,800 with additions. This is fairly standard fayre on an entry-level camera and doesn’t make use of the brilliant advances Canon has made in recent years. Missing out on the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system means that you sacrifice some features and performance for the price with this camera.

Look And Feel

The camera itself looks and feels good, the body is small and portable which is good for traveling and outdoor usage. It has some features that you would expect, such as Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, but doesn’t have a Bluetooth Low Energy option. In addition, it misses out on a touchscreen, which feels like a step backward when everything from smartphones to smartwatches has used touchscreens for some time now, but this is expected at this price range. Having said that, the controls themselves are laid out logically and allow the beginner to assume relative control quickly.

The finish is plastic, with a feeling that doesn’t suggest sturdiness or durability. When spending big on a DSLR, you want to know that it will last for some time. Although this is by no means a camera that breaks the bank, the Canon EOS Rebel T7 should have a much sturdier feel, giving the confidence that it will last for years to come.

Shooting Modes

This is a slow camera by any standards. It only shoots at a 3fps continuous shooting rate, making it one of the slowest out there. If you are looking for action shots, or are used to shooting in bursts then this definitely isn’t the camera for you.

We found that the White Balance for this camera to perform well, allowing you to have confidence in the warmth of your shots. This alongside the 63-zone dual-layer metering sensor does a robust job if you are looking for a simple camera that takes shots without fuss. Having said that, we find that the Canon EOS Rebel T7 can be bettered by many on the market at this price due to its lack of advanced tech.

The video mode is a real letdown with the Canon EOS Rebel T7, as it feels stuck in the past with 1080p video and no access to 4K. Another let down on a camera that promises so much yet delivers so little. See more details
